Certainly most UK universities will accept mature students on any course - and science courses are usually the ones with lots of vacancies. So long as you can demonstrate an aptitude for the course, and some relevant experience and ambition, then the usual admission rules applied to 18 year olds may be waived. This is not too old. Get into a science uni degree with physics, astrophysics, chem, etc in it. Join a local astronomy club (usually held at your local observatory). If it has taken this long to decide, are you REALLY sure? Remember, you'll be graduating at age 27 - pretty old by some standards. Oh, and a very good grounding in electronics would be almost vital. Hell, you are leaving it a bit late. Get into a science uni degree with physics, astrophysics, chem, etc in it.
