What kinds of jobs can an engineer get that are associated with cars?

RyeGuy asked:

I want to become an engineer but i also love cars. I was wondering i there are any specific jobs that that an engineer could have that would combine the training of an engineer and my love for cars. What are some of these jobs called if there are any?

There’s a whole field called automotive engineering. However, it’s not doing so great right now. Many major car manufacturers are firing employees due to poor car sales, which is a result of the slow economy in general.

However, things will probably pick up again in a couple years, and the engineering experience you gain for a mechanical engineering degree (specializing in automotive) can easily translate to other engineering fields. So, even if you don’t end up working in the automotive field, you will still be well-rounded enough to work in another field. There’s always a demand for engineers somewhere. lithiumdeuteride
