Really any of the sciences are great to help animals. My recommendation though is to look at different colleges online look at what the offer in the science fields and see what looks interesting. The prerequisites really all depend on what you want to go into. Some may require a 4 year degree while others may require you to pursue a masters it really depends on what you want to do. Since you say you are in college the "career service" building which I'm sure every university offers can really help you out!
