What kind of job in psychology can you get with a bachelor of arts in psychology?

job
meeper23 asked:

Hi, I got my bachelor of arts in psychology and minor in criminal justice a couple of months ago. I was planning to go to grad school to get a doctorate but I wanted to get work experience in the psychology field before I make that kind of commitment. Are there psychology jobs that you can get with a bachelor of arts in psychology? Any psychology job at all?

You may be able to find a job as a case worker. However, most “psycholgy” jobs require an advanced degree.

I am a psych major now as well. I’m taking a careers of psychology class at the moment and there are many opportunites out there for psych majors. Most are entry level and do not pay much. But it is a very broad field. With going into criminal justice, you may want to check with some local police stations. They may offer you an internship to gain some experience. If you do a search on “psychology careers” you will find all sorts of great information.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, check with your local government, like a probation department or child protective services. But with a BA they won’t necessarily pay well.
You may be wasting your time with this job experience idea.
If I were in your situation, I would go for an advanced degree now, either Masters or PhD, and/or a clinical license. Those qualifications will bring much better job/career opportunities and pay.

If you’re interested in working with children, you may also want to check out detention homes as well as placement homes for children removed because they were being abused or having troubles — you can become certified as a Child Chare Worker in many of those places.

It’s a great idea to get some work experience before you get your Ph.D. as it will not only give you more insight into what branch of the field interests you, but also will look good when you apply for internships and post docs.

    Good luck.
