to find the detail about nature of these two fields, the best site is wikipedia. as for the scope is concerned, the middle east is the most demanding region of engineers;

If you type in “electrical engineer” into dice.com, you get over 3000 job listings (mostly junk). Sift through those to get an idea of what the career prospects are. Ditto for mechanical engineering.
BTW… it is a crappy time to be an engineer in the US. Real wages have been stagnant for many years. Look into the H1-B visa program, then decide if you want to be in this train-wreck of a profession.
