I really enjoy history and would love to have a more scholarly career. However, it bothers me that a job history doesn’t really imply a shaping and changing of the future, while I would like to have a more meaningful effect in working towards positive change. What are your opinions on the relevance of history and how it can be meaningful? Are there are any careers you can think of that would combine history and activism? (I am also not so much interested in studying activism)

Lola asked:

I work 4 days a week, about 9-10 hours and have three days off in a row. I have a young child, planning a second soon, and love to write but have had a hard time turning it into a career. I’d like to eventually make it a full time career, but am not ready to take that leap. First of all, I make more money than my husband right now (he’s in school) and we need my job, and second, I don’t know yet if I would be successful, so it’s a lot to bank on. I do want to write professionally, by the way, not just as a hobby. So, how can I build up my writing career while working and still having time for family, etc.?

How do I make my dance resume look better?

resume
Bailey C asked:

I have been a dancer since I was 3. I trained for 15 years and then went to college and stopped for a while. Now I’m 21 and I really want to pursue dance again. I would love to go out to some big auditions in NYC but there is only one problem. My resume is not at all impressive, especially compared to the many dancers out there. I had impeccable training but I have no professional credits in theatre, film, commercial etc. What can I do to add to my resume and/or make it look more impressive? What activities can I do that look impressive/legitimate?

How can I get a job as a hospital receptionist?

I have receptionist/administrative assistant experience but I am having a hard time finding a job. I want to work at a hospital because I’d love to work from 7 pm to 7 am. This would allow me to go back to school during the days and finish up my degree. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions about how I can get a job at a hospital as a receptionist or an admission rep?
