Is it hard to start a career in custom vehicles?

i was planning on attending wyotech college so i could learn more about custom auto fabrication and engine work, because i like custom cars..especially mini-trucks. What i want to know is, how hard would it be to pursue a career in customs and eventually open my own shop? and could i make a living on this, or is it more like ” easy come easy go” type of thing??
