I think that's something you should discuss with your co-workers and see if they do want to have any cats around, and if everyone decides that this would be something they would like to try... I wouldn't recommend too many cats maybe one or two. Someone would surely have to take on the responsibility of the company's new mascot, making sure there's food and water on the weekends, changing the litter, etc...

It may be beneficial for the people there but not for the cat to be stuck at a workplace.

in this town there are a few places of business that have a cat or two running the show, and sitting in the window in front. they greet the people who come in. i think it is a good thing, they seem well cared for and not neglected. it is important that you don't allow them to be neglected or abused by employees or customers.
i think anyone who keeps a cat must have some integrity and i tend to do business with them more...for instance there is a garage in a town not far from here that i needed to fix my wife's car when the transmission went out there, i discovered that he feeds and keeps cats there and i have used his services several times since, because of the cats, the owner just has a kind heart and probably won't rip us off.

I think that depends on what your workplace is. If you work in a place with a number of employees, you have to be sensitive to the fact that they might be allergic or don't like cats. Cats in the workplace are very soothing and give a little color as well. There is nothing nicer than a bookstore with a "shoppe-kitty". I would poll your employees first, you might end up with a Pandora's box on your hands. If all seems well and there are no medical concerns (ie. alergies, pregnancy, etc) go for it!

I agree. Cats and animals in general make people happy. I do think it would befit the employees as long as everyone likes cats. We have an office cat at work and I love him as well as everyone else does.

Well, while it is true that they have health benefits, you should also consider that some employees might have an allergy (or phobia!) to cats and it may actually be counterproductive. You know, lower one employee's blood pressure and give the another one hives. And as much as I love my cats, they do like to climb all over my keyboard, and if I were trying to work instead of playing on yahoo, it would be very irritating. Unless all your employees are quite fond of cats and definitely not allergic, this may not be a good idea. Fish are also supposed to lower blood pressure and stress, and I don't think anyone is allergic or fearful of their presence, plus they're less upkeep and no training...maybe you could put in a big fishtank instead! It might be more appropriate for the workplace.

have you ever owned a cat??? They are stressful, with their stinky litter box, cat hair everywhere, hairballs, and vomit. Plus, my cat just likes to sit right in front of the computer so I can't get work done. I don't recommend cats for the workplace!!!

This is true, and I think if it is possible you should get some cats for your workplace. However let me ask you this:

Do you have a lot of computers with wires? if so, this is a bad idea. You don't want your network to go down because the cat chewed through your cable.

Only if no one is allergic to them and everyone likes cats. Also, make sure you have someone to take care of them on weekends if no one is around.
