There are a ton of great books. Try Milton Katsales book called, Dreams Into Action. It'll rock your world. Also, try An Actor Prepares, and Building a Character. Ute Hagen was a great author/teacher in the subject as well. Also, is a great site to see what's happening in your area. If you are serious, get involved in local theater for a short time to try it out, then if you fall in love with acting, hit the road. There are only 2 places to be for acting, New York or L.A.... break a leg. P.S. I moved to LA a year ago to do the same thing:) It's a HUGE hustle, but well worth it!

You should look in the news papers that advertise jobs or internet site, sometimes people need extras for a commercial either on tv or in magazines or a soapie,by working on that people might notice you and you can become a big star

Is there a local drama group anywhere near you? Even amateur groups are a good place to start and talented actors are often 'spotted' in amateur productions.

Most colleges run courses in drama which would give you a good starting point. Failing that, and depending on how serious you are about your chosen path, you may have to move to somewhere that offers you more opportunities.
