from what i heard pastry chefs get paid better than most chefs starting out in the business. it would be good to get a career as a pastry chef and play clarinet in a symphony as a hobby. just pick whichever makes u the most happy.

You could get a day job at a bakery, and check into joining a symphony. I think most of those are for volunteers though, but maybe try. Do you have any opera halls or something in your area? My old highschool choir teacher worked nights singing in the opera here in downtown fort worth.

The Culinary Institute of America ( CIA - not the spies . . ) is down the road from me. Each of the graduates there is almost guaranteed to get a good job. You can do a 4-year degree, or there is a 2-year diploma.

I am a professional flutist. I would not want to be in your shoes now - this has got to be one of the hardest times ever to consider making a career in music. And - if you graduated - why did you not apply to colleges already?

You are much more likely to make $$ in the food industry, than the music industry. You can learn to refine your baking skills, and get a job - but unless your are absolutely incredible in music - you stand almost no chance of getting a job. Career tests for your aptitude are useless here; if you had made All-State every year, won all kinds of music awards, and had been intensely studying with a top teacher, plus practicing 4 or more y hours a day - you would not get into a decent music school anyway. Your choice seems pretty clear to me.
